INTERNET – A Curse or Boon

The world has done a lot of improvement in the field of technology. It has provided a lot to the society, a few of them are Computer, Internet, Smart Phones etc. And among these all, internet is one of the most useful and advance technology. During these difficult times of COVID-19, we all are using internet for work & entertainment, and we all know that it is a curse as well as a boon. By the use of internet, we can access information by only searching as we can’t go anywhere due to corona, but we can explore anything in just one click on our computer using internet. It has taken big and effective leap in bringing the world closer in these difficult times. It has changed the face of every human activities like business, commerce, banking, education, culture, etc. It has helped us a lot in the field of human warfare and scientific research. As in Africa communication was not possible few years ago and the people living there didn’t knew much about things happening in the world but after the introduction of internet, it has led to a great change in Africa. One can get information of anything by just searching it on internet no matter where he lives but he should have an internet connection.

 

Negative side of Internet

• Everything is available on internet but some people take it other way and they hack social networking accounts of other users intentionally.

 

• People don’t really want to apply their mind even for small and basic things and just google for anything they need.

 

•  People don’t really want to pay a price for a software, they can just search it on internet they can download them for free which is called piracy and it is an offensive crime.

 

Positive side of Internet

• Some people work officially for their country as America traced the most dangerous terrorist by using only internet.

 

• Internet is very useful for students, as due to corona schools are shut close students are taking benefits by having online classes with help of internet only. They can have access to all kind of study material like lectures, videos, ideas for projects etc.  

Now, let’s talk about how internet is a curse or a boon. Some good features of internet are that if someone needs any information regarding health, education, gaming, blogging and anything you can imagine, we can find on internet but if anything has a good side it also has a dark side same case is with internet also. Cybercrime is a severe crime that is related to internet and privacy. Many organizations or even individuals try to access privacy of people which is not tolerable but they tried to do these things even if they are so many laws regarding cybercrimes internationally but some people do it professionally also its their profession. These people work for big companies or even for their nation also. People who hack something for a cause are known as “hacktivists” or they are even given the titles of “black hat hackers” or “white hat hackers” accordingly on the basis of their work is good or bad.

 

History of Internet

Now let’s talk about how this revolutionary thing was created. It was started as a sharing program for time-sharing of computers and it was funded by the Advanced Research Projects Agency aka ARPA of the United States Department of Defence in 1960s and in the meantime a person named Paul Baran in the early years of 1960s and Donald Davis in 1965 started working on fundamental internet technologies. In 1967 packet switching was forms into legal corporation into the suggested design for the ARPANET and there were many networks developed in the 1960s and 1970s like the NPL network, the MERIT network and CYCLADES.

Infrastructure of Internet

The infrastructure of internet is its main component because of which it can connect millions of people in just a few seconds. The infrastructure of internet consists of both its hardware and software that controls various aspects of this vast network. To run internet on any computer we must need components like routers, cables, modems and few radio links etc. However, many of the network nodes are basically cannot be called internet equipment but the main components of internet are its protocols which can save our privacy from hackers as we have talked about them above and the most important thing is IP address, without IP address we can’t even search anything.

 

Conclusion

I conclude with my words that internet has become a family member for all, without it we cannot imagine the exploration of our ideas. But we should commit to be faithful towards society and humanity with a promise to use it in only positive ways.
